Dear Future Homeowners,

When we moved here 20 years ago, I couldn’t have imagined then how hard it would be to leave our home. Our house is so much more than a roof over our heads and warmth in the cold weather. The next chapter is upon us and we must pass the baton to the next lucky owners of 380 Elmwood Ave!  Our home has always been such a special place for us to host our friends and family and we hope that you will continue this tradition!

As animal lovers we have always had a pup. Maplecrest Park, two blocks away, was a place that we met so many of our wonderful friends while walking our newest little girl, Penny. The park is always filled with activity—from baseball games, soccer tournaments, bike riding—and along with that came lots of people wanting to give Penny a hugs and scratches. We became friends with so many lovely people beyond our immediate neighbors when Penny introduced us to her newfound friends, and of course, their “parents!”

The MAPSO community is filled with incredibly gifted and talented members. Every year we waited for the Maplewoodstock lineup, participated in the local theater group at the Burgdorff Center, and saw superior talent at SOPAC. All right here for when we didn’t feel like commuting into the city.

As people who love to entertain, well, let’s say that this is the best house in the neighborhood for that. Our backyard was always with filled with genuine friends—enjoying belly laughs, gourmet barbecues, fresh veggies growing in our amazing garden, exotic flowers, colorful floats in the pool and always a fantastic play list! It was the hub of the community during the Covid pandemic as there was so much space for us to socialize safely. We made it through together in the backyard we call Penny’s Paradise!

It is here that we celebrated Mardi Gras annually, sewed about 750 masks with our friends for essential workers, gave shelter to those who lost power during hurricane Sandy, celebrated new jobs and graduations, and hosted sit down dinner parties with fairy lights on the back porch!

This house was so loved! It’s truly a magical space, especially in the summer and fall with the gardens in full bloom and the porch being a perfect setting for fall entertaining. And how can we forget spring, when the new flowers bloom and we seen the beautiful magnolia in the front and the flowering pear and cherry trees in the back. Lest we not mention winter, while the outside might be dismal, a fire in the fireplace always produced a smile and provided physical and emotional warmth.

The physical structure itself makes us beam with pride as we have meticulously maintained and improved our home and have enjoyed all it has to offer!  We hope that the next owners continue to create their own happy times together and spread love.
