Dear Future Homeowners,

Welcome to 15 Burr Road!  While our family was blown away by the house the first time we saw it, it wasn’t until after we moved in that we fully understood all it had to offer.

You have probably already noticed the exquisite charm of the home and the perfect blend of original detailing mixed with modern finishes; the authentic flooring, stained glass windows and unique archways give the house character while the updated appliances and fixtures provide all the modern convenience you could ask for in a new home.

The large, flat backyard lent itself to endless hours of entertainment for our kids and the awning we installed over the deck made it much more comfortable for outdoor barbeques and lounging in the summer sun.  When the weather was less than ideal, the finished basement (with bathroom!) was a perfect play spot for our kids.  And, the laundry room in the basement made it easy for us to do laundry while we were watching them.  We even added a laundry chute to make the seemingly endless piles of laundry a bit easier to do 🙂  We also converted the “Maplewood Room” to an additional playroom, so when we were cooking in the kitchen we could easily keep an eye on the children playing.  With the extra space on the 3rd floor we were able to have an au pair join our family and still have room for an office, which was especially useful post-pandemic.

We can go on and on about the physical characteristics of the house, which are apparent to anyone who sees it.  However, what is not as apparent is what incredible towns South Orange/ Maplewood (SOMa) are, and all the “unseen” features of 15 Burr.  When we moved to SOMa, we didn’t know anyone directly – only friends of friends.  However, we quickly found out that the people of SOMa are diverse, welcoming and friendly.  Living here, we have met the most wonderful people, many of them our direct neighbors.  The street (and neighborhood) is filled with young kids and families who are all outside when the weather is nice and eager to have get-togethers inside in a non-pandemic world.

There are a plethora of extraordinary day cares to choose from if you have infants or toddlers and if you have children in elementary school, you are a hop, skip and jump away from Clinton Elementary School, which is a block away.  Before our kids were old enough for school, we utilized the Clinton playground any time we needed a close change of scenery.  We even taught our oldest how to ride a bike in the Clinton parking lot!

SOMa is filled with family-friendly activities, great restaurants and cute shops, many of them located in town.  Even though Burr Road is in Maplewood, it is equi-distant from both Maplewood and South Orange and you can easily walk or bike to either town on a nice day, or it is just a short car ride away.  This makes it especially accessible to enjoy all that SOMa has to offer.  If you do commute to the city for work, our house is also a 60 second walk away from the nearest Jitney stop, which is a small shuttle bus that drives commuters to and from the train station, making the use of a car in commuter travel obsolete. While this service is currently suspended, it is a novelty to have once things open back up.

While we have started the next chapter in our lives, it was very difficult to say goodbye to our wonderful home at 15 Burr, which will always hold a special place in our hearts.  We feel extremely lucky to have lived there and know that you will feel the same!
