Dear Future Homeowners,
Our home, 377 Meadowbrook Lane, has been good to us for 20 years. Three children were raised here and tons of memories were made; birthday parties in the backyard, Christmases with tall trees, and fun block parties with dear neighbors, to name a few. When we first moved here, the children were 5, 3, and 5 weeks. We were so excited for the amount of space in the house! Not only did each child have their own bedroom, but we were able to have our own office and studio spaces on the third floor.
The location of the home is utterly fantastic! Walking to Mountain Station takes about 5 minutes and 15 minutes to South Orange Station. South Orange Village is vibrant and artsy, especially with SOPAC and its concerts and movie theater. We all enjoyed Flood’s Hill (a stone’s throw away) for summer music events, outdoor movie night, the kids’ soccer games, and of course sledding on our toboggan in the wintertime! We are also right by the newly renovated Baird Center where the kids took a variety of classes such as comic book making and tap dancing. The South Orange Pool is in walking distance too where membership is a bargain, it’s hardly ever crowded, and the kids always found a friend to play with.
Our home has many distinctive characteristics; the oversized front door, the beamed ceilings i the living room, the charming original doors and doorknobs, and the high ceilings. I particularly love the primary bedroom en-suite. The spacious bathroom was a sanctuary and the attached room which we used as a nursery was a life saver for those middle of the night feedings.
The children had plenty of places to play. The basement served many roles including an arts and crafts studio, Lego building area, pretend play space, and indoor soccer arena. They also loved the bright sunroom where they practiced their musical instruments. And of course our backyard ideal for a swing set, soccer practice, birthday celebrations, and just relaxing on the swinging sofa listening to the birds.
I would characterize the neighborhood as old fashioned in the sense that the children are able to be independent and go from house to house, backyard to backyard to play with each other. My youngest grew up with four friends on the block from when they were infants all the way up to college. They are still friends and keep in touch. The neighbors on Meadowbrook Lane are very special, always ready to lend a helping hand, and genuinely wonderful people. And I think that’s what I will miss most about leaving this home (besides Sonny’s Bagels and Trattoria’s Greek Salad Pizza!).
Best wishes,
The Current Homeowner
