Dear Future Owner,
It’s easy to see the beginning of things. It’s harder to see the end. Over the past 18 years we’ve called this place home. We’ve raised a family, welcomed grandchildren — and made friends we’ll have for a lifetime.
Our Tudor-style home, with its well-maintained landscaping, solid masonry, large windows, and decorative half-timbering, reminded us of our home country of England.
Inside, four levels merge old-world and modern charm. The first floor boasts an open-floor plan, cedar moldings, custom shelving, a naturally lit dining room, a living area with a limestone, gas fireplace — and a bonus room. Immediately off the dining area, French doors lead to an enclosed sunroom, perfect for morning coffee or a sunset read. On the second floor, there are three spacious bedrooms, including two full bathrooms and updated master suite. The hall bath, renovated a few years back to add modern amenities but maintain the home’s character, was remolded by the same contractor who renovated Princess Margaret’s beach house on the Caribbean Island of Mustique. Meanwhile, the third floor offers a fourth bedroom with an ensuite bath and plenty of storage, including a large cedar closet.
Location: The area was first used as a summer resort for New York City residents who came to West Orange to holiday and enjoy the beautiful mountain slopes. And while the area is no longer a ski resort, there’s still loads to do. Located 13 miles from New York City, West Orange is a perfect location for commuter families who enjoy the outdoors. The township offers many unique attractions— including our personal favorite, the Waterfront. Located on the Orange Reservoir, the strip is flanked by a 1.7-mile walking path, where weather permitting, we take daily walks with our grandchild. It also includes a shaded picnic area and a playground. Right next door is the Turtle Back Zoo, Mini Golf Safari, and Treetop Adventure Course.
School: Hazel Elementary
A parent favorite here in town, Hazel Avenue Elementary School is a lovely little primary school that houses 335 children and serves grades K-5.
I can’t list all the ways 20 Colony Drive East has been special to our family these past two decades. We will miss our lovely home, scenic neighborhood and great friends. We wish you beautiful memories.
Sincerely,
The Current Homeowners
